Learning to Host 101 with |XD|Arruz
If you get confused at any point, please PM |XD|Aruz, send a memo, or email for help.
Step 1: How do you get internet?
Note: Do not feel intimidated by the below instructions. They are all explained step by step excluding the first (which is not as important).
Determine your setup such as: Internet -->
Modem --> Router --> Your Computer. Also find out what type of router and/or modem
you have such as: Linksys, D-Link, NetGear, US Robotics; Look for the model number such as:
WRT54G or
108G MIMO.
This information can help in finding passwords later on or specific instructions for that type of router/modem.
Note: This guide is primarily used for people with a Router Connection. If you have a Modem Connection it is possible to host, though this may require a phone call to your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
Step 2: Finding the IP of the router and your computer...
To find out the internal IP of the router and your computer, follow these steps:

The IP Address (ex. 192.168.0.3) is the internal address of your computer. It's relatively useless except for the router to know where to route stuff. The Default Gateway (ex. 192.168.0.1) is the internal address of the router. It's used to access to router and change settings, as seen in the next step.
Step 3: Logging in to your Router...
In order to change the settings of the router, you must be able to log into or else you will not be able to change the settings. To login, follow these steps:

Examples of typical username/password combinations:
| Username | Password |
| admin | |
| admin | 1234 |
| admin | admin |
| admin | password |
| admin | |
| password |
Step 4: Configuring the router so you can Host...
IMPORTANT: After logging in, you should be able to see all the information about your router. Now your objective is to find out where to Port Forward. Look for links, tabs, or buttons that say: Advanced, Port Forwarding, or Applications and Gaming.
All routers have a different setup. This setup seems to be the easiest to read and understand. If you are having problems or are not 100% sure, contact me or check out: http://www.portforward.com/.
There is quite a bit of information to enter at the Port Forwarding page.
|
Label |
Information to enter |
| Name of application: | YVD |
| Start - End Ports: | 7237 - 7240 |
| Protocol Type: | Both (TCP and UDP) |
| LAN or IP Address: | 192.168.1.### * |
| Enabled: | Yes |

Note: If the above worked you do not need to do the following. However if you couldn't find the above, try this.
Enabling DMZ host does look easier, and it is, but it's not the "best" choice to allow YVD ports. For some people who do not have the option of the first picture, use this one. Enter the last number of your IP Address from Step 2 into the blank, check enable if needed.

Once you press Apply/Save then you should be able to Host. Congratulations!
If for some reason you cannot host, contact me (info at top of page) and I'll be glad to assist you.
